The highly anticipated London premiere of OSCAR at the Crown begins performances on 21 May in a brand-new, custom-built venue on Tottenham Court Road.
Following sold-out runs in New York and at the Edinburgh Festival, this underground dystopian musical invites audiences into a secret bunker where reality TV, glitter balls, and the complete works of Oscar Wilde are all that remain.
Guests will drink, dance, and party among burnt-out tube carriages and smashed TV screens, joining a vibrant community of outcasts as they spark a cultural revolution inspired by Wilde’s dramatic rise and fall.
Mark Mauriello reprises his role as Oscar Wilde, which The Guardian called “dazzling.” Mauriello is also the show’s conceiver and book writer, and co-founder of The Neon Coven, a leading force in queer theatre.
Elizabeth Chalmers returns from the Edinburgh production to play Wilde’s wife, Constance. “A high-energy show that could be the best musical since SIX,” said The Sun. Chalmers delivers “a stellar performance,” according to Fest, with powerful vocals and a commanding monologue.
Zak Marx joins the cast as Lord Alfred “Bosie” Douglas, Wilde’s aristocratic lover.
Zofia Weretka reprises her New York role as Vicki, a character inspired by The Real Housewives. Weretka previously portrayed Countess Luann in The Real Housewives of New York: An Unauthorized Parody Musical.
Elinor Morris makes her professional London debut as Ramona, while Luke Farrugia (Frank’s Closet, The Lion King: Rhythm of the Pridelands) plays Sonja.
Kelis Alleyne takes on the role of Erika, with Isidro Ridout, Ran Marner, Natalie Yin, and Ella Daini as the Exiles. Estelle Denison-French joins as the on-stage swing.
The production is created by The Neon Coven, with music, lyrics, and choreography by Andrew Barret Cox, known for his work with RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni. Direction comes from Shira Milikowsky, celebrated for her radical reimaginings of musicals and classic texts.
OSCAR at the Crown is presented in London by ROYO, producers of The Steps Musical, Here & Now, 13 Going on 30 The Musical, and Kinky Boots.
The show also marks a collaboration between GOLD SKY’s Rebecca Gold and Shira Milikowsky. Gold is a multi-Tony Award-winning producer behind immersive hits like Sleep No More and Life and Trust.
Writers Andrew Barret Cox and Mark Mauriello said: “It’s a dream to finally bring OSCAR to London, especially alongside a team bold and mad enough to open a whole new nightclub for the show to call home. Absolutely crazy.”
OSCAR at the Crown launches on 21 May.
