Casting has been announced for the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch and New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich production of Patrick Hamilton’s gripping thriller, Rope.

Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actor James Sutton will star as Charles Granillo in this chilling play. He is best-known for playing John Paul McQueen in Hollyoaks – a role he was thrice nominated for a British Soap Award and shortlisted for a National Television Award.

Rope will be directed by the Queen’s Theatre’s Artistic Director Douglas Rintoul. Doug directed James Sutton in As You Like It at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Doug also recently directed Corrie star Charlie Condou and Victoria Yeates of Call the Midwife in last year’s acclaimed revival of The Crucible.

Based on a 1920’s real-life case, Rope is a dark classic filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1948, and remains to this day one of the most tightly coiled of thrillers.
