Scissorhandz: A Musical Reinvented is a fresh and vibrant take on Tim Burton’s cult classic, coming to London’s Southwark Playhouse in January 2025. The show blends pop-music, camp energy, and an unforgettable storyline, starring Jordan Kai Burnett as Scissorhands. With a star-studded cast and a killer soundtrack featuring hits by Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Alanis Morissette, this musical promises to be a one-of-a-kind theatrical event.

In this exclusive interview, we speak to Jordan Kai Burnett, who originated the role of Scissorhands in Los Angeles and is now bringing the character to London.

Don’t miss Scissorhandz: A Musical Reinvented at Southwark Playhouse from January 23 to March 29, 2025. Tickets are available here.

You’re bringing Scissorhandz: A Musical Reinvented to Southwark Playhouse, what can you tell us about the show?

This show is a queer reimagining of the movie you love. It’s somewhere between a rock concert and a musical Fantasia.

You’ve originated the role of Scissorhands in Los Angeles, what’s it like bringing the character to the London stage?

I’ve always wanted to work in London. I feel so grateful to bring this show, that I love so much, to life here!

The show features a soundtrack packed with iconic hits. What can you tell us about the music and how it shapes the experience of the show?

I think there’s something beautiful about the music of a time helping to tell the story of a movie that we love- it’s primed for pulling heartstrings and making you laugh/cry.

As someone who has performed in a variety of productions, what makes Scissorhandz stand out for you personally?

The show is for anyone who has ever felt other, on the outside, or a little bit different. The show is about celebrating who you are down to your core, what makes you special.
