You’re starring in La Clique as it returns to London, how would you describe the show?
THE best variety show there is! It’s an absolute delight and honour to be part of such a line-up of artists who are world-class in their fields. The show is mesmerising, sexy, and hilarious.
Tell us a little more about your act?
I’m performing two acts in the show, one that I created especially for La Clique, which is the opening act. Something that challenges the stereotypes of classic burlesque of the moment. Opulent, bold, and heartfelt.
The second one is my signature Bathtub Burlesque act. In keeping with the tradition of La Clique’s bathtub boy act, I guess this is my burlesque take on it. Glamorous, classy, and sexy with a good dose of self-irony, one of the key elements in the art of burlesque.
What’s the biggest challenge for you performing in a show like this?
I have a deep sense of responsibility towards the rest of the cast and the show. We are a team, performing solo acts and collaborating on each other’s acts at times. I want to deliver my very best each time. It’s a challenge finding the balance of giving all I have and being in complete control of my performance. As well as taking each audience member on this journey with me, in the same way, on every show.
What’s it like working with so many talented cabaret stars, and how do you help each other out during the run?
It’s a privilege, a joy, and a challenge.
We look out for one another. Sharing the dressing room and rehearsing together is a big part of it. It’s a great way to bond. No matter what happens in our personal lives, the show must go on, so feeling safe in a friendly environment significantly impacts the performance.
And what’s it like working in the famous Spiegeltent?
It’s a dream come true! I saw La Clique many years ago before embarking on the journey in the variety and cabaret world. I remember being so stunned by the skills, the fun, and the production level. Never would I have imagined being part of it one day. I’m treasuring every moment of it.
What would you say to anyone thinking of booking to see La Clique?
Do it. Don’t think, book it. There’s something for any taste, and you’ll want to come back again and again!
