As Theatre Peckham looks forward to its 40th anniversary in 2026, the theatre announces the addition of two esteemed individuals to its family of Patrons. Celebrated playwright Roy Williams OBE and Miatta Fahnbulleh, the Member of Parliament for Peckham, have joined the community.
Roy Williams OBE is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning writer whose plays include The Death of England Trilogy (National Theatre), The Firm (Hampstead Theatre), and Sucker Punch (Royal Court Theatre, nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Play). His TV work includes Fallout (Channel 4), Babyfather (BBC), and Let It Snow (Sky One). Roy was awarded the OBE for Services to Drama in 2008 and became a fellow of The Royal Society of Literature in 2018.
Miatta Fahnbulleh was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on 9 July 2024. She was elected as the MP for Peckham in July 2024. Miatta studied philosophy, politics, and economics at the University of Oxford and obtained a PhD in economic development from the London School of Economics. She served as the Chief Executive of the New Economics Foundation from 2017 to 2023 and previously worked at the IPPR as the Director of Policy and Research.
They join a distinguished group of Patrons, including award-winning actor John Boyega, renowned director Paulette Randall MBE, and beloved actress Jenny Agutter OBE. These highly respected leaders have come together due to their deep admiration and shared commitment to the mission and values of Theatre Peckham. Their support will help nurture creativity, diversity, and the next generation of artists in the community as Theatre Peckham embarks on its exciting and inspiring anniversary in 2026.
Reflecting on his appointment, Roy Williams said, “It is places like Theatre Peckham that got a shy young Black kid into theatre. I have never looked back. Honoured and thrilled to be a patron.”
Miatta Fahnbulleh stated, “Theatre Peckham is a vital part of our community – where young people can explore their creativity, find their voices, and tell their own stories. I’m honoured to become a Patron and to support the team’s incredible work in nurturing the next generation of artists. As we look ahead to the 40th anniversary, I’m excited to be part of Theatre Peckham’s journey and to help champion the power of the arts to transform lives.”
