Tall Stories will bring its Olivier Award-nominated production of Room on the Broom Live On Stage back to stages across the UK from October 2026, culminating in a Christmas season at London’s Lyric Theatre.
Based on the beloved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the production follows a kind witch and her cat as they encounter a series of animal hitchhikers on a magical broomstick adventure.
The new tour opens at Rose Theatre Kingston on 27 October 2026 before arriving in the West End for a run at the Lyric Theatre from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.
Produced by Tall Stories, the adaptation combines music, puppetry, stage magic, storytelling and audience interaction to bring the much-loved story to life for audiences aged three and above.
The story centres on friendship and kindness as a witch, her cat, a dog, a bird and a frog find themselves facing danger from a hungry dragon after their overloaded broomstick snaps in two.
Originally created by Tall Stories in 2008, the production has toured extensively throughout the UK and internationally, including performances in North America, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and Poland. In 2013, it received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Family & Entertainment Production.
The production is directed by Olivia Jacobs, with design by Morgan Large, puppet design by Yvonne Stone, lighting design by James Whiteside, choreography by Morag Cross and music by Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw.

How to depict all the animals that grab a lift, with a witch? How could we create flying? How could we create a dragon, a mud monster and a magnificent broom… we took the challenges as opportunities for creativity and, working together, created something that we’re hugely proud of. I love working on and directing this show, and hopefully, audiences will love it just as much. I hope that within the laughter and the fun, the show, at its heart, gives a message that no one is left out, that there’s always room for kindness – and learning to work together makes us stronger.”
