MISSION, written by David Watson with design by Ingrid Hu, will premiere at The Big House in their Islington venue.
“You can become a part of it. A part of the world. You can take your place.
But you need to come with me.
Will you come with me?
We’ve to go on a journey.”
Akayah Francis thinks she’s dreaming when a man comes to see her with a strange
proposition. A chance to reach the stars. To break the cycle. Is this the trip of a lifetime, or
just a bad trip?
Meanwhile, a father walks out on his family.
Meanwhile, a child looks to the stars.
And, on the 259 to Edmonton Green, someone slowly slips away.
A play about making amends, and trying to make the journey to a whole new world.
The Big House opened their venue in Islington in October 2018, offering both a theatre and a space to help young care leavers. The company’s work offers counselling, long term mentoring, training and workshops for young people to unleash their creativity and build confidence whilst participating in theatre and film. No-one is auditioned, but selected on the basis of need.
Directed by Maggie Norris (Artistic Director of The Big House), this production brings together young people who have experience of the care system, with a team of professional creatives to produce unique and powerful work.
“Honestly, I have never been more proud than I was tonight at The Big House. How lucky I am to be a part of such an amazing family. You blew my mind, touched my heart, and reminded me why powerful and honest storytelling is so important. I wouldn’t be where I am without you guys, and to see the culmination of hard work, love, support, vulnerability and talent come together and produce such a beautiful show reminded me why I love acting so much and the impact it can have. “ A member of The Big House on our last production, Redemption.
MISSION will run at The Big House Wednesday 11th May – Saturday 4th June 2022.
