Windsor Fringe Announces Highlights

The Windsor Fringe are pleased to announce that their 47th Fringe will begin on September 22nd and run to October 7th culminating with the internationally acclaimed Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing.

Windsor Fringe is the second oldest Fringe in the UK – starting in 1969 as an alternative to the Windsor Festival. Solely run by volunteers, Windsor Fringe aims to provide a wide range of arts events and activities for all tastes and all ages to enjoy at local community venues in Windsor.

Events include theatre, comedy, music, film, dance, cabaret, children’s shows, visual arts and much more. Highlights this year include:

  • New immersive drama, and cutting edge dance from Windsor based companies Phoenix Theatre Productions, and 4Motion Dance Company
  • Son Con Swing (Son with Swing) consists of the newest generation of Cuban musicians who have taken their love of traditional Son music and added a modern vibe. Son is the name for traditional Cuban music made famous by the Buena Vista Social Club, and was the precursor of Salsa music.
  • Art Exhibitions including the very successful Artists Open House with local artists showing their work in Windsor homes and local galleries
  • Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing, which has attracted over 257 scripts from 17 countries this year.

This year the Windsor Fringe has a new Chair, Karen Darville, who now runs her local family business Darvilles of Windsor Teas, but previously was a Community Arts Officer for a London Borough, and also a volunteer at Windsor Arts Centre.

Karen said “I am very pleased to be the new Chair of Windsor Fringe, and am delighted that we have such a varied and interesting programme this year, which we hope will appeal to a wide range of people, as well as the activities that the Windsor Fringe has become renowned for including the Artists Open Houses and the Kenneth Branagh Award. We hope that people attending our events have a great time and are inspired to find out more about the Fringe and all the things we do. We look forward to seeing you at a Fringe event in 2017!”
