“Contemporary Approaches to Adaptation” is a new online workshop offering, developed and led by Aslant Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Antonia Georgieva in collaboration with the Hope Theatre.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, May 7th at 2 PM over Zoom. Today’s theatre scene is saturated with productions that offer their take on the classics, some more radical than others.
Running as part of the Hope Theatre’s #HopeOnline series, the workshop will explore some key considerations for form and content when adapting a classical work for the stage. The workshop will pay special attention to queer and feminist strategies and approaches to adaptation. As part of the session participants will also get a chance to apply some of those ideas in a short practical exploration followed by a discussion.
Antonia Georgieva is a director, writer, and artistic director of Aslant Theatre Company, known for their “visually evocative storytelling” (Broadway World) and their Offie Award-nominated debut MUSE. Antonia specializes in female-led work, adaptation, and new works that revisit history. She is currently researching the field of stage adaptations while developing a new version of Hamlet.
“Contemporary Approaches to Adaptation” is ideal for directors, dramaturgs, writers, devising collectives, or other creatives who are interested in working with adaptation.
