After multiple rounds of intense competition and heart-stopping performances, Roundhouse are thrilled to unveil the winner of the highly anticipated Roundhouse Poetry Slam final! Birmingham based poet Bradley Taylor has won the award after facing strong competition against 10 other finalists and making it through six fiercely fought national heats over the last few months.
Dedicating his award to fellow finalist Ray, his nan Pat who was in the audience and the late great Benjamin Zephaniah – winner of the Roundhouse Poetry Slam final for 2024, Bradley Taylor said: “All I have is my words and for my words to get me this far is beautiful and fulfilling. I hope this award inspires kids who would rather perform than write because performance poetry is just as important as written poetry, that’s how people get heard”.
Bradley Taylor is a poet and spoken word artist born in Birmingham, where he now hosts the monthly spoken word evening ‘Overcoat Poetry’ at Fletchers Bar in Kings Heath as well as around the city, performing ‘poetry on demand’; using his typewriter to gift strangers with a unique poem of their own choosing. Last year he was selected by Jasmine Gardosi to write a commissioned poem for the Birmingham Festival 2023, which he then performed as part of the closing ceremony. He is also part of the Verve Collective, consisting of 12 poets who represent the evolving Birmingham poetry scene.
