The Almeida Theatre has announced the cast for the world premiere of Christmas Day, a new play by Olivier Award-winning playwright Sam Grabiner.
Directed by James Macdonald (Infinite Life, The Children), Christmas Day is a viciously funny exploration of identity, belonging, and the rituals we perform with the people we love.
The cast includes Jamie Ankrah, Samuel Blenkin, Callie Cooke, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Nigel Lindsay and Bel Powley.
Set in an abandoned building somewhere above the Northern Line, with foxes prowling the deserted streets outside, a Jewish family gathers on Christmas Day.
“There’s something perverted about a Christmas tree. They’ve got an aura. It looks perverted and it gives me the creeps,” reads a line from the play.
Christmas Day marks Sam Grabiner’s second play, following his acclaimed debut Boys on the Verge of Tears, which won the Verity Bargate Award, The Stage Debut Award for Best Writer, and an Olivier Award for Best Production in an Affiliate Theatre.
The creative team includes Set Designer Miriam Buether, Costume Designer Evie Gurney, Lighting Designer Jon Clark, Sound Designer Max Pappenheim, Intimacy Director Lucy Hind, Casting Director Amy Ball CDG, and Voice Coach Hazel Holder.
The production runs from Tuesday 9 December 2025 to Thursday 8 January 2026, with press night on Tuesday 16 December.
Christmas Day is supported by Dianne Roberts, and Lin and Ken Craig.
