Fighting back against the Covid 19 Arts Lockdown: acclaimed actress Debbie Bird takes her One Woman Show, Buzzing, on-line to bring live theatre to your lounge.
As a freelance actor, Debbie Bird has been directly impacted by Lockdown, with her 12 date UK Tour cut short, after just 4 well received & well-selling shows. All her other acting and professional work has been discontinued.
Yet, the need to speak out for the invisible middle-aged women, to make them visible, vibrant and respected in the Modern World has not gone away. To that end, Debbie has sought out & tested new performance platforms to engage those who would not otherwise get to see the show until 2021, but for whom the issues at stake are part of their day-to-day reality.
Fresh from its successful premier at last year’s Edinburgh Festival and a National Tour which was cut short due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, Debbie Bird is now set to bring her critically acclaimed show, Buzzing, written and performed by her and directed by Mark Farrelly, to audiences in the UK and beyond in a one-off live streamed performance on Friday 25th September 2020 from Applecart Arts, London at 7.45pm GMT
Through the story of freshly divorced Julie, we journey through one woman’s struggle to embrace her sexuality as a mature woman. Often hilarious, always touching and heartfelt, the story follows Julie’s journey into menopause, divorce and sexual re-birth.
But just what does it take for Julie to truly become herself, and does she have the inner courage? What is required of any man or woman to live their truest life in a world that wants us to settle for ‘fitting in’? Expect tears, truth, and revelations aplenty in this warm and witty solo play, which had its sparkling debut at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival and is now presented in a specially extended 70 minute version.
