Fresh from a sell-out run in Australia, award-winning performer Thomas Currie brings his electric late-night cabaret Basically Nocturnal to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025. This vibrant and off-beat show is a celebration of the midnight hours, designed for those who feel most alive when the rest of the world sleeps.

Currie, armed with a piano and a restless imagination, guides audiences through a series of short musical stories – from ghostly tales to awkward dates – all underscored by a soundtrack that keeps night owls company until dawn. With reimagined classics and original compositions, Basically Nocturnal is a heartfelt and hilarious journey into the minds of the sleepless.

Each performance is uniquely shaped by the audience, as Currie incorporates their experiences into live compositions, accompanied by an onstage cellist. No two shows are the same, making each night a one-of-a-kind experience.

“Basically Nocturnal is all about this relatable cycle,” says Currie. “It’s an open conversation between myself and the audience at a Fringe Festival where it’s all about sharing stories.”

Whether you’re a chronic overthinker or a creative soul who thrives after dark, Basically Nocturnal promises a cabaret experience like no other.
