14+, contains strong language, audience participation (limited), and themes and discussions of mental illness and suicidal ideation

Presenting a comedic insight into intrusive thoughts, Beth Wants the D is an autobiographical one-woman show that confronts death and delusion. Written and performed by Beth May, the production draws from her personal experience with bipolar disorder, guiding audiences through the extreme highs and lows of mental illness to the most daunting prospect of all – a future full of hope.

Beth May, known for her work on the Dungeons & Daddies podcast and We’re All Gonna Die at SXSW, brings her signature wit and self-awareness to this brutally honest and unexpectedly hilarious piece. Through a fast-paced comedic lens, the show explores the absurdity of the mind’s chaos while never losing sight of the serious consequences of mental illness.

Directed by Riley Rose Critchlow (Chriskirkpatrickmas), the production is a raw and unfiltered storytelling experience. It offers a candid confession and a deeply human perspective on survival, strength, and the power of humour in the darkest of places.

Beth May shares, “Although it is based on my experience with mental illness, I’m just one of millions. Many people who deal with psychosis or substance use are feared and vilified, and many haven’t survived to share their story. My story can’t bring them back, but it can show that the curtain between sanity and madness is shockingly thin.”

Critchlow adds, “Beth is a visionary writer and captivating performer. Her vulnerability in this piece is a gift to witness. It’s one of those shows that leaves you changed – and it’s also fucking hilarious.”
