In a vibrant fusion of drama, live music, and cultural education, Dic Dic Chang Chang Playground returns to the Edinburgh Fringe for a second year. Running from 1 – 9 August at theSpaceUK @ Surgeons’ Hall (Theatre 3), this 40-minute interactive children’s show introduces young audiences to the colourful world of Cantonese opera.

Written and directed by Musette Tsang, the show follows two young guardians—Captain Dic Dic and Chang Chang—as they defend Cantonese Opera Land from the villainous Boring King. With help from the Cantonese Opera Fairy, they learn traditional performance techniques and invite the audience to join their mission. Children are encouraged to speak key phrases, try symbolic gestures, and become secret agents in this fast-paced theatrical adventure.

Presented by Hong Kong-based One Table Two Chairs Charitable Foundation, the production blends traditional opera with playful storytelling. It was awarded the Asia Art Special Award Runner-Up at the Asian Art Awards in 2024 and is supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London.
