Edinburgh Fringe Review: Lost Property at theSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall

Jules Chan brings his semi-autobiographical solo show English Ako to the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, running from 1–23 August (excluding 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 & 18) at theSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall. Blending physical comedy, candid storytelling, and character multi-rolling, this heartfelt comedy-drama explores the complexities of dual heritage and cultural identity.

Born in the Philippines and raised in the UK, Chan’s protagonist “Boy” navigates the challenges of growing up between cultures—from playground racism and awkward Hinge dates to tense universal credit meetings. Along the way, he transforms people in his life into Shakespearean characters like Tybalt and Malvolio, playfully interrogating Britishness through a uniquely Filipino lens.

English Ako is a raw and funny tribute to the immigrant experience, offering an unfiltered look at identity, self-acceptance, and the search for belonging in contemporary Britain.
