From the creators of the 2024 hit Hold on to Your Butts comes Fly, You Fools!, an absurdly accurate live parody of the most epic fantasy film of all time. Making its UK premiere at Pleasance Courtyard (Beyond) from 30 July to 25 August (not 7 & 18), this 60-minute show compresses 178 minutes of cinematic action into a hilarious hour of live theatre.

Three actors and a Foley artist form a fellowship of their own, using live sound effects, exaggerated impersonations, and physical theatre to retell the first chapter of a legendary fantasy saga. With choreographed mime, shadow puppetry, and a makeshift wind machine, the show is a loving tribute to the original film while remaining accessible to all audiences.

Directed by Kristin McCarthy Parker, Fly, You Fools! is part of a double bill with Hold on to Your Butts, which returns to the Fringe after a sell-out run. Actors Nick Abeel and Kyle Schaefer appear in both productions, joined by Regan Sims and Foley artist Kelly Robinson.

Kristin McCarthy Parker, co-founder of Recent Cutbacks, brings her signature blend of comedy and technical precision to the production. Known for Off-Broadway hit Puffs and a range of acclaimed theatre and film projects, Parker’s direction ensures a show that is as clever as it is entertaining.

Recent Cutbacks, founded in 2014, is celebrated for its lo-fi, high-energy movie parodies that blend nostalgia and humour. Their Edinburgh debut last year was met with acclaim, and Fly, You Fools! promises to be another Fringe favourite.
