Two Zimbabweans meet for a first date in a London home, and what begins as a casual encounter quickly becomes an emotionally charged exploration of identity, gender dynamics, and shared trauma. Strangers & Revelations, written and performed by Chiedza Rwodzi, runs at theSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall (Theatre 3) from 1 – 23 August (not 10 & 17), at 12:05.
Following a last-minute change of plans, Zodwa finds herself in Malcolm’s home, where the unexpected intimacy of the setting leads to deeper revelations. As the pair connect over their shared heritage and romantic histories, they begin to uncover truths rooted in mythology, grief, and the complexities of navigating life between cultures.
Directed by Matthew Kissa, this 50-minute drama premiered at the 2024 Kenya International Theatre Festival and marks Rwodzi’s Edinburgh Fringe debut. The production is grounded in the lived experience of its creator, who has spent over a decade navigating life in London as a Zimbabwean woman.
Strangers & Revelations is presented by Unshaded Arts, co-founded by Rwodzi and Hassan Govia. The company is also bringing Govia’s Because to the Fringe this year. Rwodzi’s previous work includes the short play How Are You, Really? and the award-winning short film Courage In Silence: A Woman’s Fight.
