A high-stakes PR crisis sets the stage for emotional unraveling in The Alchemy of Sadness, a new drama from Messy House Productions making its world premiere at theSpaceUK @ Niddry St (Upper) from 11 – 23 August (not 17). The show runs at 12:50 in Week 1 and 11:10 in Week 2.

Written by Alex Garcia-Laguer and directed by Leticia Mora, the play follows Thiago, a rising professional, and his demanding boss Liam as they navigate a crisis management project for a celebrity chef. As pressure mounts, their relationship spirals into a volatile mix of rivalry, control, and emotional tension. Surreal elements reflect their psychological descent, with physical transformations mirroring their inner turmoil.

Inspired by Garcia-Laguer’s own experiences in high-pressure restaurant and entertainment environments, the play explores the emotional toll of toxic workplaces and the blurred lines between ambition, survival, and identity. The production features Oscar Fabela as Thiago, Zachary Story as Liam, and Kristen Tarrago in dual roles as Aurora and Mari.
