Acclaimed writer and performer Suzy Crothers brings her powerful new solo show Troubled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for its world premiere. Running from 31 July to 25 August (excluding 11 and 18 August) at Summerhall’s Anatomy Lecture Theatre, this heartfelt and humorous one-woman play explores the domestic impact of societal violence, conflict, and intergenerational trauma in Northern Ireland.
Set in 1993 Belfast, Troubled follows Alice, a “Troubles kid” navigating the chaos of her past while trying to build a future. As she teeters on the edge of love, Alice must confront the lingering shadows of her upbringing in a divided city. With warmth, wit, and unflinching honesty, Crothers invites audiences into a world of tea, biscuits, and big-hearted storytelling.
