Blending the lyrical elegance of the Chinese Zheng with the rich textures of Celtic harp and the rhythmic pulse of the Scottish bodhrán, Waves of Tradition: A New Horizon in Scottish-Chinese Music is a cross-cultural concert exploring connection through sound. Running from 19 – 23 August at theSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall (Theatre 2), this 45-minute performance is part of the Hong Kong Soul Showcase.

Arranged and performed by Zheng virtuoso Wan Xing and Glasgow-based duo Eleanor Dunsdon (harp) and Gregor Black (bodhrán), the concert features reimagined folk melodies, rhythmic dialogues, and moments of spontaneous improvisation. The trio moves between solo passages and ensemble interplay, creating a live soundscape that bridges East and West.

The collaboration was born at Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Global Musician Workshop, where the artists discovered a shared language in storytelling and improvisation. Their performance invites audiences into a meditative and dynamic musical journey that celebrates cultural exchange and innovation.
