Edinburgh Interview: Basil Brush on Basil Brush’s Family Fun Show and Unleashed

Basil Brush

Basil Brush

I am 18 inches tall and the only talking fox on the box. I’ve been around for over 50 years but have reinvented myself more times than doctor who and you never know may come back as a woman one day ….Basselle Brush! I have the best brush around that everyone is impressed by how Big it is and bushy and I tell terrible jokes that folks have heard before ..I say I’m recycling them …saving the planet!

Basil Brush’s Family Fun Show is at Underbelly Cowbarn 31st July – 15th August.

Basil Brush Unleashed is at Underbelly Cowbarn 31st July – 25th August.

Your coming to Underbelly Cowbarn what can we expect?

We have two shows on the going at Edinburgh, a family show in the afternoon and a more grown up version at 6:45. I am with my sidekick Mr Martin , he stands at my side and I kick him …in both shows audiences members will be up on the stage , some will get wet and some with get pied …also my singing will make grown men cry…….cry stop it we can’t take it any longer …there will be so much laughter that some of it will be in the right places ….we will be family friendly in the afternoon, so bring your kids but there will still be plenty for the grown-ups and in the evening we will have a play with dating apps , read the classic novel 50 shades of orange ….maybe even bring it to life and get everyone up on their feet at the end …all the seats are wired to the grid !!

What’s the one thing about these shows that make them different from all the rest?

The one thing that makes our shows different from everybody else is I am the only talking fox on the fringe …So there and I have my own catch phrase …BOOM BOOM!!

Why did you want to two shows?

We’ve never written a show aimed at a slightly older audience, so it is difficult to write something that will be edgy for the late-night bunch but also not offend anyone who is easily offended! Basil brush is known for families but after appearances on the last leg, the chase, celebrity juice it became evident that he could take on subjects above the heads of kids…think Graham Norton meets crackerjack, and our shows should appeal to everyone from kids run to the late-night crowd!

What’s the best/worst thing about writing a show for Edinburgh Fringe?

There will a lot of love out there for the brush and we hope we give something to everyone, the scary thing is there will be a lot of expectation, but the fun thing is we know the audiences will be up for it and are in for a bumpy ride!! BOOM BOOM …hang on tight …

How does it feel to be at Underbelly Cow Barn?

I am excited because the I have often been known to milk it on stage so our upside down cow is perfect to be milked , the shows are set up specially for the space and our interactive screen will amaze and dazzle everyone …as long as they’ve had enough to drink …..oh and there may be free drinks served in the show …look out !

Who will these shows appeal to the most?

Our family shows will appeal to anyone with youngsters but want to go to a show that the parents will enjoy as much if not more than the kids, lots for grown ups, and our evening show is for those that have already grown up but would like to be kids again and re live their year youth, be silly , loud but also enjoy the words of the fox. That can be on so many levels…we expect all ages in the evening show and defibrillators will be on stand by from those around when Mr Derek was at the side of the brush.
