Edinburgh Interview: Matt Price on Broken Hooters and Geezers with Shooters

Matt Price

Matt Price is a comedian and Podcaster from Cornwall. He says he tells the kind of stories that make you wonder A: If they’re true and B: If perhaps he has too much time on his hands. The answer to both these questions is YES.

Matt Price Broken Hooters and Geezers with Shooters is at Underbelly Clover 31st July – 25th august (not 12th).

Broken Hooters and Geezers with Shooters is coming to Underbelly Clover what can you tell us about it?

My show is a funny story about the time I as asked to work on a writing project with a retired gangland criminal. I was out of my depth from day one, but I learned a lot. It’s full of bizarre characters and stories. It was weirdly therapeutic.

What inspired you to write the show?

The old cliche “write about what you know” is very useful. It’s easier to talk about things you’ve experienced and this is such an unusual set of circumstances, that I could’t resist sharing the story with audiences. Every time I got home to my partner after meeting up with “the criminals”, as I called them, I couldn’t wait to tell her. And she couldn’t wait to hear.

How did you research the subject of Broken Hooters and Geezers with Shooters?

I researched it by being in the company of numerous people who have been on the wrong side of the law for the last ten years or so. I’ve been to several criminal’s funerals and whilst I’m not a criminal, I’ve been made welcome by those who were.

What’s the one thing about this show that makes it different from all the rest?

I’ve never known or heard of a show like this. I know as performers, we all like to think we are unique, but life lessons from hardened criminals is not something I had ever considered. Being with them really did change my life!

How does it feel to be at Underbelly Clover?

Great. I’m looking forward to it. I have a great venue at a great time. I’m very happy.

Who will Broken Hooters and Geezers with Shooters appeal to the most?

I think people who like something personal and a bit different will really like this. It should appeal to people who are interested in crime too.
