Stephen Bailey on Our Kid

Everyone’s favourite ‘guilty pleasure’ (Daily Record), stand-up comedy star, Stephen Bailey returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018 with his brand new show ‘Our Kid’.

2018 has been an exciting year for Stephen. The past six months have seen him embark on his first critically acclaimed UK tour, perform three nights at the prestigious Soho Theatre in London plus support Katherine Ryan on her recent sold-out UK tour. His friendly brand of gossipy humour has made him one of the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming acts in comedy at the moment.

His recent and varied TV work includes him becoming the resident agony uncle on ITV1s ‘Zoe Ball on Sunday’ and appearances on Five’s ‘Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ and Comedy Central’s ‘Live at The Comedy Store’ adding to his extensive back catalogue of TV and radio work.

Our Kid is coming to Maggie’s Front Room at The Free Sisters what can you tell us about it?

Guys, I am still figuring it out. It’s the first time I am telling a story. I have MASSIVE imposter syndrome and it turns out most of us do. Like we all feel like we are going to get caught out – why is that? I don’t know the answer but I’ll tell you everything leading up to that realisation.

What inspired you to write the Our Kid?

I really feel not good enough most of the time. Even if you get the boy, the friends, the job, I feel like I don’t deserve it and I just started to wonder why! SO let’s write a show about it yeah?

How does it feel to be at The Free Fringe?

I love the free fringe – it reminds me of the council house I grew up in. It’s a roof over your head but it likely will leak. Also bring cash! I have a bucket and don’t take card unless you swipe it between my cheeks.

What’s the best/worst thing about writing a show for Edinburgh Fringe?

Feeling not good enough.

What’s the most challenging thing about performing in Our Kid?

Telling yourself that you are enough – because you are!

What’s the one thing about Our Kid makes it different from all the rest?

I don’t want to comment on anyone else’s show but I really tell the stories that make me laugh. And I think that is the best way to be relatable! I’ve rewritten it about six times so please come out of sympathy.

Why should people come see Our Kid?

It appeals to everyone that has ever existed on the planet!

Stephen Bailey Our Kid is at Maggie’s Front Room at The Free Sisters – Laughing Horse Free Festival 2nd – 26th August.
