Two-time Olivier Award-winning and critically acclaimed British actress, singer and musical theatre star Janie Dee (Follies, nominated best actress in a musical; Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends; The Motive and the Cue) will turn audiences’ attention towards the climate crisis in a stunningly devised performance show. Janie Dee’s Beautiful World Cabaret is a playfully informative and inspirational journey of humanity and nature through song that is, at its heart, always hopeful.
This incredible show will feature a range of music from artists and composers including Sondheim, Sting, Peggy Lee, and Vivaldi – with also a poignant addition of a Shakespeare monologue – where Janie Dee’s renowned versatility will shine through as she delivers showstopping performances. Adapting to address different issues currently circling the news cycle, Dee shifts between cabaret and spoken word to explore how we can be more mindful of the world we live on.
Inspired by her own revelation around how much she has consumed and how she can be wasteful, Janie Dee has since been passionate about the conscious effort to reduce waste and limit her own use of plastics – with sometimes hilarious and extraordinary results. Dee asks what small steps we could take if we stop, think, and try to truly care a little more.
Janie Dee’s Beautiful World Cabaret is an unashamedly honest, welcoming and funny show that will feature a line-up of unusual but inspirational guests who are making a difference.
Janie Dee comments I started the London Climate Change Festival in 2020 to bring information, inspiration and hope. I then pulled together a whole host of incredible people and created Song for Nature for Sky Arts. I then felt sure that a live event would amplify the effect, So Beautiful World Cabaret was born! It’s an unexpected twist on the traditional cabaret that’s radical yet informative, and very dear to me.
Previous praise for Janie Dee:
Is there a more enchanting actress on the British stage than Janie Dee. She combines good nature, good humour, an unforced charm and un-selfconscious sensuality with a sense of mischief (The Times)
