Five Star Review from Theatre WeeklyTemi Wilkey tells you from the start that Main Character Energy is all about her and you best believe it, in this utterly captivating performance.

It’s a tough ask to have people still engaged when you’re lying on the floor in silence for a full thirty seconds during the climactic third act of your show, but somehow Temi manages to keep the audience hooked through sheer charisma and tenacity. Main Character Energy, performed in Summerhall’s Roundabout, quite literally puts Temi centre stage and under the spotlight, showcasing her desire to be adored – but also bringing her deeper insecurities and fears to the fore.

The carefully constructed persona of Temi is impossible to look away from – and she’ll definitely notice if you do. The all-pink outfit and staging, complete with ruffles and feathers galore, tell you what you think you need to know about Temi, but rest assured she’ll set you straight.

Main Character Energy digs into what makes a one-woman show possible (a performer’s ego) and brings it under the microscope for a closer look. While it might dig into some deeper themes that send the character into a tailspin, Temi’s larger-than-life stage presence means the show remains fast-paced and gripping throughout.

Main Character Energy is sexy, messy, unpredictable, and hilarious from start to finish. The quieter moments are all the more valuable for how they lie in stark contrast to Temi’s chaotic energy at other times. There’s plenty of audience interaction, but Temi manages to make you love her from the first 30 seconds of her time on stage, meaning people are clamouring to be noticed rather than subtly avoiding eye contact.

For a late-night show that’s sure to deliver a good time, look no further than Main Character Energy. Temi Wilkey holds you in the palm of her hand and you only need to be along for the ride.
