The European premiere of Falling in Love With Mr. Dellamort is set to enchant audiences at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer, bringing with it the haunting sounds of the Theremin and a deliciously gothic pop score.
Running from 30 July to 24 August (excluding 11 and 12 August) at C ARTS | C aquila (temple), this is the only musical at the Fringe to feature the exotic Theremin, live Foley sound effects, and a rollicking Goth-pop soundtrack.
Directed by Abigail Zealey Bess, Falling in Love With Mr. Dellamort is a quirky and comic tale with a gothic twist. Three lost souls are mysteriously invited to spend New Year’s Eve at Maison Dellamort, a remote seaside guest house with a peculiar and magnetic host.
As the weekend unfolds, secrets are revealed, and the story takes a sinister turn, blending mystery, mortality, and unrequited love in a style reminiscent of Little Shop of Horrors and The Rocky Horror Show.
The cast includes Robert Tripolino (Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables), Grace Farrell (The Crucible), Chris O’Mara (Cabaret), Natalie Arle-Toyne (Dracula: Mina’s Reckoning), Jennie Jacobs (Stiletto), and acclaimed New York Theremin artist Cornelius Loy.
The creative team features Jack Feldstein (Book & Co-Lyrics), Paul Doust (Music & Co-Lyrics), Musical Director Ben Papworth, Sound Designer Sarah Weltman, and Casting Director Michael Howell. General Management is by Clayton Howe and Mitchell Reeve for Across the Pond Theatrical Management.
The Theremin, a century-old electronic instrument, is played without touch. Its eerie tones have featured in everything from the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” to sci-fi classics like The Day the Earth Stood Still. In this production, it becomes a voice of emotion, weaving through the characters’ desires and dreams.
After a development run at New York’s Slipper Room and a pandemic-era podcast adaptation, Falling in Love With Mr. Dellamort now makes its long-awaited live debut in Europe. The podcast version has garnered over 13,000 streams and is available on all major platforms, along with the Original Cast Recording on Broadway Records.
