Fly Trap, a solo storytelling coming-of-age comedy exploring drama school trauma and mental health, will make its UK premiere at Camden Fringe 2025.

Created and performed by Maria Mainelli-Ajmo, Fly Trap runs at Barons Court Theatre from 28th July to 2nd August, with a press night on Monday 28th July at 7:30pm.

The show is a deeply personal reflection on Mainelli-Ajmo’s experiences as a musical theatre major and her journey following a bipolar diagnosis. It explores the emotional toll of seeking acceptance and the lessons learned from her grandmother’s advice: “you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.”

“Fly Trap is a piece of my heart and a piece of me, put onstage,” said Maria Mainelli-Ajmo. “I wrote this show because I needed to write it for myself but I’m performing it because I want other people to see themselves in it and know it’s okay to be okay. I was inspired by my grandmother’s advice ‘you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar’, for better or for worse. I’m so excited to be making my UK debut at Camden Fringe, it’s such an honor to perform this show internationally.”

Maria Mainelli-Ajmo is a comedian, writer, and creative based in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a Helen Hayes Award winner for Best Ensemble Cast in Blood at the Root with Theatre Alliance in Washington, DC.
