Legends of the immersive dining scene Gingerline are returning to London for their first shows in the capital in four years with The Grand Expedition: The Incredible Edible Journey.
Bigger and better than ever before, this culinary journey around the world will captivate audiences during a 100-minute dining extravaganza alongside a completely unique menu of enticing dishes, acrobatic acts and exquisite choreography. The Grand Expedition lands in a brand-new venue for 2024, Dalstonâs Film Shed, an East London industrial warehouse that oozes character and natural charm making it the perfect setting for an adventure like no other.
In creating The Grand Expedition: The Incredible Edible Journey, Gingerline has collaborated with a host of impressive performers, artists and creatives including circus consultant Jack Horner. With over 20 years of experience working on stage and screen, Horner has been involved with the likes of Cirque Du Soleil, Frozen the Musical and Beauty & the Beast, and now brings his fantastic talent to Gingerline.
Set within a fleet of hot air balloons, guests will be transported across the globe touching down in far-flung destinations with impressive new scenes, immersive games, circus acrobatics and puppetry for an all-encompassing experience. Creative collaborators include artist Saju Hari and choreographer Hallgrim HansegÄrd. Each location has been crafted to perfection by designer Harriet Darling, co-founder of Darling & Edge, who also collaborated with Veuve Clicquot, Wildcat Gin and The Crystal Maze Experience.
With a menu cultivated by Gingerlineâs Executive Chef Jenny McNeill, audiences are invited to delight in its divine culinary inventions. Dishes around each destinationâs culture are presented by dancers, who serve these ingenious and delicious plates alongside cocktails, all expertly crafted and thoughtfully designed to deliver the ultimate dining experience.
Greenaway & Greenawayâs animation and sound design immerses audiences in each location, with their signature style as seen in previous collaborations with the National Trust, The Roundhouse, the V&A, and the Pet Shop Boys. The projections incorporate illustrations from artist Fred Campbell, whose work on The Grand Expedition was longlisted for The World Illustration Award 2020.
Suz Mountfort, Creative Producer and Co-Founder of Gingerline, comments, Weâve been looking for many months for a site to host the return of our Grand Expedition. While our roots are undeniably south London, Dalston is for us, Gingerline heartland. Itâs the intersection of the two Overground lines that carried our diners to super-secret locations in our early years. Itâs also got a vibrant creative and food scene there that never fails to inspire!
Designer Harriet Darling adds, After a four-year hiatus, we are so excited to be back working with Gingerline again. As artists and designers, we are blessed to be working with the only immersive experience team to deliver truly original narrative concepts to London. The design is an artistic expression of an adventure full of imagination, creativity, play, and beauty. The oversized multi-sensory set design has the audience at its center, without whom the show doesn’t take flight. Working with an outstanding team of creatives whose flare for detail and bold style creates an immersive dining show that is relentlessly captivating. We can’t wait to bring Darling and Edge’s iconic touch back to audiences in such a playful way. Welcome back, what a fantastic homecoming!
