Amanda McBroom Pizza Express Live

Amanda McBroom Pizza Express Live

Amanda McBroom, is renowned for her magical blend of personal anecdotes, humour and songs by highly acclaimed songwriters as well as some of her own well-known, self-penned numbers including, of course, ‘The Rose’ which was an international hit for Bette Midler.

Her talent for witty, profound and emotionally charged songwriting sets her apart from her from her contemporaries. My Favorite Things at Pizza Express Live is an evening of her favorite songs by her favorite songwriters including Mike Reid, Stephen Sondheim, Jacques Brel,  Fran Landesman, Michele Brourman, and of course, Amanda herself.

We caught up with Amanda to find out more.

Tell us about Pizza Express Live, what can audiences expect when they come along?

They can expect really good music, known and unknown, lots of funny stories, the occasional good cry, and a wonderful evening of song.

How did you get involved with Pizza Express Live?

I originally performed several times at pizza on the park long, long ago…ten? Fifteen years ago?  Then I met the divine Ruth Leon and we bonded, and when she started producing musical events here in London, she asked me to come along. We have been pals ever since, and she has most wonderfully kept inviting me back.

What are you most looking forward to about performing in The UK?

The audiences. The very best!

How did you get in to performing as a career?

I have been performing since I was a child. My father was a movie actor and my mother was a drama teacher. How could I not? I got my first paycheck for doing it when I was sixteen, and have been lucky ever since to be doing what I love most in the world!

The Rose has a very special place in many peoples hearts (it’s my Mum’s favourite song of all time!) what opportunities does writing such a successful song afford you?

Well…the list goes on and on. You meet the most wonderful, talented people. You get to write with some of them. You get to hear them sing your songs! You get to sing at the Grammy’s…Carnegie Hall…London!

And then of course, everyone expects you to write another one.

You’ve appeared in many TV shows, do you have a preference acting or music?

I incorporate both of them always. When I am singing, I am acting. A song is a monologue set to music. Of course, I love acting in a non-musical form as well. It’s all part of the same gene pool. Make me an offer!

What pizza topping are you looking forward to trying out while you’re here?

Oh boy…would have to have sausage and peppers…and a rocket salad on the side!

Amanda McBroom is at Pizza Express Live on 17th June 2018. Tickets On Sale Here.
