You’re appearing in Snow White and The Happy Ever After Beauty Salon, what can you tell us about the show?
I am! The show is a sparkling and sassy spectacle full of fun, silliness and humour. The production is such high quality, the costumes, the set, there’s lots of singing and dancing – it really is a show for everyone. I’m exhausted but ready for an audience!
Why did this production of a traditional fairytale with a contemporary twist appeal to you?
Oh I do love a twist on the familiar. My favourite film is ‘Shrek 2’ (don’t judge me) and there are definite parallels in our show – lots of fairy tale characters all in one place, surprising plot lines, hilarious gags and plenty of cracking tunes. No ogres though, which I was disappointed by.
Tell us a little more about your character, and what you’re enjoying most about the role?
I play ‘Trish’ who is the owner of The Happy Ever After Beauty Salon and is also the Aunt of Snow White. She is the villain of the piece – I like to call her the misunderstood antagonist – and she’s a delight to play. She’s a bright and bubbly woman (you’ll have to wait and see my wig) who tries her best, but who’s jealousy eventually gets the better of her. I’m enjoying playing a villain very much – my Mum says I was born to do it, which I’m trying not to read too much into.
Do you have a favourite part of the show yet?
Oooh there are so many to choose from. The Big Bad Wolf gets a song which is utterly brilliant. All the transformations in the Salon are wonderful. Trish’s big song in Act Two! There are moles! There’s too many!
How does it feel to be performing again at Christmas, and what are you looking forward to most about working at Salisbury Playhouse?
This is my first time performing at the Salisbury Playhouse and I couldn’t be happier. Salisbury is a beautiful city, chock full of food, friendly faces, and wow, so many pubs. Most of all, I’m looking forward to meeting the audiences of Salisbury who I’ve heard are a joy. It feels very special to be here for Christmas.
What would you say to anyone thinking of coming to see Snow White and The Happy Ever After Beauty Salon?
GET A TICKET WHILE YOU CAN. You won’t regret venturing out for this festive extravaganza, perfect for all ages. I’ve said it before but the costumes, set, music, performers, lighting, sound – it’s all West End quality and we are beyond excited to share this one of kind show for you all.
