Siubhan Harrison will play Rina in Eve Leigh’s new play, Wildfire Road, at Sheffield’s Playhouse Theatre this March.

Honeymooners, middle managers and spontaneous singletons settle after take-off to Tokyo. But this flight is no holiday as the plane has been hijacked. As a wildfire burns below them, what’s the hijacker’s motive, and where will they land?  In Eve Leigh’s red-hot new play, all is not what it seems.

Wildfire Road is at The Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse, Sheffield Saturday 4 March – Saturday 18 March 2023.

You’re starring in Wildfire Road, what can you tell us about the play?

It’s a really exciting new piece of writing by Eve Leigh, directed by Laura Keefe which focuses on a plane full of people who collectively experience a trauma, but on a bigger scale is about climate change and one way of us protecting our future on this planet. There is lots of comedy, surreal moments, wonderful movement from Carl Harrison, emotion and hope.

What was it about Eve Leigh’s script that made you want to be a part of this production?

The script deals with a very serious matter, the future of the world and our time on this planet is something we’re all thinking about, we are living in a time of huge global crisis and this play definitely makes you question the big issues, but it is so funny, it’s also one of those scripts you read and don’t know how it can be done on stage which is so exciting as an actor.

You play Rina, tell us a little more about the character, what are you enjoying most about the role?

Rina is a flight attendant, who has been in her dream job for years, she’s hugely professional but faced with massive challenges on this flight. I’m really enjoying finding the moments she unravels and when she has to keep it together for the passengers.

Why do you think this story of ordinary people faced with extraordinary circumstances will appeal to audiences?

We’ve all been ordinary people faced with extraordinary circumstances over the last few years. The power of seeing strangers bonding and clinging to each other in crisis is incredibly powerful.

This will be your first time working at Sheffield Theatres, what are you most looking forward to about the experience?

I think Sheffield Theatres are one of the best in the country. They continually produce incredible new writing and I’m thrilled to be here.

What would you say to anyone thinking of booking to see Wildfire Road?

Wildfire Road will take you on a mammoth journey. It’s full of surprises, unexpected laughter and questions. I really hope you will never experience a flight like it in real life, so come and watch us go through it instead!
