Interview: Tyger Drew-Honey on Artificially Yours

“it’s safe to say this show really highlights the unsettling direction in which humankind is most certainly moving, and where it could take us”

Tyger Drew Honey

Tyger Drew Honey

Tyger Drew-Honey stars alongside Leslie Ash in Artificially Yours, a dark-comedy that explores the hilarious and disturbing consequences of our society’s increasing trust in Artificial Intelligence.

Tyger Drew-Honey is best known for playing Jake on BBC’s hugely popular Outnumbered, and Dylan on five series of the hilarious Cuckoo.

Artificially Yours will play at Riverside Studios in London Tuesday 9 – Sunday 21 April

You’re starring in Artificially Yours at Riverside Studios, what can you tell us about this new play?

It’s a funny piece, a glimpse into a not so distant future where AI has somewhat taken over the world. Being that ‘Black Mirror-esque’ and dystopian are two of my favourite genres, this project itches at both of them nicely.

What was it about Aaron Thakar’s script that made you so keen to be part of this production?

What made me enjoy this script was its clear comedic moments and its topical subject matter, paired with good character dynamics and pace.

Tell us a little about your character and what you love about the role?

Noah is a pretty happy go lucky guy, very laid back, a bit of an insensitive twit sometimes, but all around a good egg. I like the role because I feel there is a fair amount of scope for comedy, which I enjoy.

And what do you think will be the biggest challenge for you as an actor?

Probably the biggest challenge in the production will be doing the script justice. There are countless great beats in the script, I just hope we can hit every one of them!

Have your opinions on AI changed in any way since working on this show?

Not particularly, I’ve been fairly tuned in to the AI developments going on in the real world, for better and for worse. But it’s safe to say this show really highlights the unsettling direction in which humankind is most certainly moving, and where it could take us.

What would you say to anyone thinking of booking to see Artificially Yours?

I’d say BOOK IT NOW WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? But no seriously, do come and see us. I think you’ll be in for a right thought provoking treat.
