Following a sellout success at Edinburgh Fringe in 2017, Long Lane Theatre Company are pleased to announce their UK Autumn tour of The Giant Killers, a true story of class, sport and the survival of the underdog. The re-cast and reimagined production is in London on Monday 15th October, Greenwich Theatre ends with a week long run at Upstairs at The Gatehouse London, Sunday 4th November.
Football was not always a game for the masses. In the 1800’s the first players to compete for the F.A. Cup were lords, knights and peers, in essence, a game for the wealthy and privileged. The pivotal moment happened when a group of mill workers from Darwen in Lancashire joined two talented Glaswegians to change football. The play tells the untold, true story of the Darwen vs The Old Etonians F.A. Cup tie. A story of a town that finds its voice and a team that change the beautiful game forever. They are, The Giant Killers, brought to stage to uplift and inspire.
The Giant Killers is performed and written by Long Lane Theatre which is run by Eve and Andrew Pearson-Wright: the couple met playing husband and wife in the West End’s longest running musical The Mousetrap in 2009. Long Lane Theatre was set up to run workshops and tours for stage schools and other theatre companies. As a result of their success with schools Eve and Andrew staged the production at Edinburgh Fringe in 2017. In this show Long Lane Theatre bring sport and the arts together in this inspiring, true tale of romance, class war, tragedy and triumph.
The new version of The Giant Killers has been reimagined, extended and re-cast for the Autumn tour and now includes: Nicholas Shaw and Kyle Rowe whose film and television credits include: Young Dracula, House of Anubis, Grimsby and Girlfriends. Kyle also played Ethan Corinn in Coronation Street.
