Ahead of the much-anticipated unveiling of their brand new 400-seat theatre, the rising star of UK summer opera festivals – Nevill Holt Opera – has now announced two new orchestral partnerships with Royal Northern Sinfonia and Britten Sinfonia for their 2018 season.
Nevill Holt Opera’s increasing popularity as a superior opera destination in the stunning East Midlands countryside and their marked growth in membership numbers for the 2018 season has seen the first production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro sell out all performances.
The new partnership with Royal Northern Sinfonia will see them provide the orchestra for Le Nozze di Figaro. Following the run at Nevill Holt Opera, there will be two exciting fully staged performances at Sage Gateshead on 4th and 6th July as part of the Great Exhibition of the North.
Thorben Dittes, Chief Executive of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, says, “We are delighted to be partnering with NHO in this landmark year for them, and performing repertoire that suits our orchestra so perfectly.”
The festival will continue with the first UK revival of the acclaimed production of Adès’ Powder her Face, originally created by Northern Ireland Opera, conducted by rising star Ian Ryan. Directed and designed by Antony McDonald, this production will star Mary Plazas in the title role.
With a history of hosting touring opera productions on the estate since 2005, Nevill Holt Opera was itself founded in 2013 as an independent festival with its own distinctive vision. Since then NHO has been committed to casting and working with young UK opera singers.
