New Diorama today unveils a new programme of work over February-June 2023, marking a new statement of creative intent and featuring internationally celebrated artists, new work from long-time associates, commissions from creatives the venue have never worked with before, and a world premiere adaptation from the youth theatre.
The programme kicks off with After The Act (28 Feb – 1 Apr), a musical world premiere marking 20 years since the repeal of Section 28 – with multi-award-winning NDT Associates Breach joyously unpacking a turning-point in British LGBTQ+ history. Following that NDT are offering audiences a second chance to catch the mesmerising little scratch (12 Apr – 13 May), one of the most acclaimed shows of recent years from world-renowned director Katie Mitchell.
Running late at night for a limited run is brand new commission War & Culture (26 Apr – 12 May) written by Nina Segal (we can’t tell you much about that and there’s no press night). And finally, a new venture from Camden Youth Theatre, with local teenagers getting the rights to the world premiere stage adaptation of And The Stars Were Burning Brightly (2 & 3 June), based on Danielle Jawando’s acclaimed young adult novel.
Artistic Director David Byrne says: “A new Breach musical, Katie Mitchell and biting the hand that feeds us – it’s a season that every Artistic Director dreams of. Our team has worked hard to keep prices affordable, with every ticket under £20 and £3 previews for anyone unemployed or taking part in strikes. We can’t wait to welcome back London’s most adventurous theatre-goers. We’ve missed you, so get booking!”
In late summer last year, New Diorama closed for Intervention 01 (which has just been nominated for a Stage innovation award). While those artists continue developing new work, this spring the venue is re-opening to audiences, re-energised and raring to go.
