Mousetrap Awards

Mousetrap Awards

Nominations are announced for the 9th annual Mousetrap Awards: the UK’s only theatre awards run by and for young people.  Anyone aged 15-29 is invited to vote in these prestigious awards, and everyone who votes will be invited to join the winners and attend the red carpet ceremony at the Charing Cross Theatre on Sunday 19th April.

Awards will be presented in 14 categories, which this year include Soundtrack of My Soul, Saved the Day and Big Little Stars, as well as Best Musical and Best Play. There will also be a Special Recognition for Contribution to Theatre Award to highlight some of the pioneering work being done within the industry.

“It means SO much for us to be nominated for the Mousetrap Awards, because the ‘jury’ in your awards is all young people. So it’s such a statement that our shows are popular with the theatregoers of the future.” Comedy about a Bank Robbery / Groan Ups

“The whole Waitress company is thrilled that Laura, David and Joe have received these nominations. It is always wonderful to be recognised for your work but it is even more exciting and pleasing to get these nominations from young people. Mousetrap does extraordinary work introducing theatre to young people and we are honoured to be part of the awards.” Waitress

“We are thrilled that Jessica and her team have been recognised for all their hard work in delivering Jack Thorne’s vision that only children with a disability be cast as Tiny Tim in The Old Vic’s production of A Christmas Carol.” The Old Vic

“We are thrilled that &Juliet has been nominated in four categories in the Mousetrap Theatre Awards. The fact that every vote is a vote from a young person means such a lot to us, and is reflected in the audiences we see every night at the theatre. Thank you!” Luke Sheppard, Director, & Juliet

The winners will be presented with their awards in front of an audience of young theatre-lovers at a ceremony on Sunday 19th April at Charing Cross Theatre.  Compered by the Youth Forum, the ceremony will feature special guest speeches and performances from rising young stars to be announced.

The Mousetrap Awards are led from start to finish by Mousetrap Theatre Projects’ Youth Forum, who does everything from creating the categories and selecting the nominees, to organising and hosting the ceremony itself.  So, as well as being an exciting opportunity for young members of the general public to have their say, the Mousetrap Awards is a unique and important opportunity for members of the Youth Forum to get experience of running and speaking at a prestigious West End event.

Voting is open until midnight on 23rd March on the Mousetrap Theatre Projects website at www.mousetrap.org.uk/mousetrap-awards-2020
