Polka Theatre has announced a vibrant programme of shows and workshops for October Half Term 2025, offering entertainment for children of all ages at its Wimbledon venue.
In the Adventure Theatre, Dweeb-A-Mania runs from 4 October to 9 November. This punchy new comedy, written by Sarah Middleton and directed by Hannah Stone, is aimed at 8–13-year-olds.
The story follows two teenage girls who decide to become champion wrestlers after being snubbed from a party for being “dweebs.” The show celebrates individuality and self-expression.
Dweeb-A-Mania is the winner of the Polka Playwriting Award 2025, funded by The Garek Trust and supported by Cockayne and London Community Foundation. It will feature Amy Blake, Chidera Ikechukwu, Grace Carroll, and Wesley Ruthven.
In the Main Theatre, Well Done, Mummy Penguin plays from 18 October to 2 November. This Can’t Sit Still production is a joyful adaptation of Chris Haughton’s picture book, recommended for ages 3–7.
The show features daring acrobatics, integrated sign language, creative captions, and heartwarming humour. It’s a celebration of penguin parenting and family bonds.
Artistic Director Helen Matravers said, “There aren’t many places that come alive in the way Polka bursts at its seams with creativity over October Half Term. The offer for all children and their families is extensive, diverse and accessible – and hopefully full of inspiration.”
She added, “With a wrestling-come-science fuelled comedy in Dweeb-A-Mania for older children, and a gorgeous wintery world of Penguin adventures in Well Done, Mummy Penguin, our theatres are being transformed in the most entertaining ways with leading theatre creatives from all over the country.”
Polka Theatre will also host themed workshops throughout the week, including:
- Family Glow Jar Making (28 October, ages 4+)
- Stage Combat Masterclass (29 October, ages 8–12)
- Voyage to the South Pole (30 October, ages 0–4)
- Wicked Wardrobe Workshop (31 October, ages 5–8)
Matravers emphasised the importance of accessibility: “With many families struggling with the cost of living and accessing creative spaces, it is vital that we maintain affordable tickets from £10 in the Main Theatre on every performance, that the building offers free play spaces, and joy to everyone who uses it.”
