Award-winning writer and performer Emma Pritchard’s coming-of-age comedy Armour runs at VAULT Festival February 15-16 2019.
I hate change. I know everyone hates it a little bit – everyone’s scared of getting old, or the feel of a new toothbrush – but I really hate it. I throw up before the hairdressers – not ‘cause I care about what I look like or anything, just a fear of the unknown, of what’s on the other side.
Susie is 14 and everything is changing. Her dad just left – taking the freezer with him. Her sister’s moved in with her new boyfriend, who washes up using his sleeve. And now her mum is dating Jesus.
All Susie wants is to play hockey at the Olympics but she’s stuck in a new town at an all girls Catholic school and to make matters worse her mum just got a perm.
Can your dream come true if your life is a nightmare? Armour is directed by Joshua Higgott and produced by Hannah Turk.
From the writer: “Armour started as an image in my head, of a teenage girl, dressed head to toe in hockey goalie gear, trying to be brave. Her “armour” in all its brilliant resilience starkly contrasts with the vulnerability and instability that comes with being young. It’s a teenage daydream and nightmare at the same time and I think audiences will experience a lot of joy, nostalgia and poignancy watching it. Armour celebrates a teenage female experience that doesn’t revolve around body image or boyfriends and which doesn’t shy away from the gross side of growing up. It’s a story for anyone who felt lost, scared, confused as a young person, anyone who found sport either the most exciting or emotionally scarring experience, or anyone whose mum turned up to school with a perm without warning.”
Armour is at VAULT Festival 15th – 16th February 2019.
