Far West Theatre are delighted to bring their much-acclaimed celebration of Jacques Brel, Jacques Brel: A Life a Thousand Times, for its London Premiere in September 2018. The seminal musical biography of the great Belgian writer and performer incorporates his world famous songs, interspersed with his philosophy on love and life with his story narrated through the words of his daughter, France.

Born in 1929, Jacques became the most successful chansonnier of his generation, performing to packed-out audiences around the globe. He would later be a major influence on artists such as Rod McKuen, David Bowie, Scott Walker and continues to be an influence on performers to this day.  The show covers his colourful, controversial yet compelling life story and includes well-know Brel classics and hidden gems, some in the original French, others newly translated and all within a cabaret atmosphere.

The first show of its kind to be approved by Editions Jacques Brel (currently headed by his beloved daughter) the show promises to leave its audience with renewed love for Belgium’s favourite son.

Far West Theatre is a Stockport-based professional theatre company and was established in 2015. The company name is taken from Brel’s 1973 film Le Far West, an inspirational tale of adults who decide to go in search of their childhood dreams, however impractical and quirky they may seem. The company aims to produce high quality theatre that serves as a great experience for everyone involved.  They try to make theatre inclusive, working with new talent in all areas of acting, directing and stage management.

Jacques Brel: A Life a Thousand Times (then Une Vie a Mille Temps) premiered at the Buxton Fringe Festival in July 2015, and was nominated for Best Show at the Fringe Awards. In 2016, the show returned to the Buxton Fringe in July, coupled with a short run at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, and won glowing reviews.
