Queer Performance Artist Brings Tropicana to King’s Head Theatre

The show was a runaway hit at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Queer cabaret performer Aidan Sadler kicks off a 10-day run at King’s Head Theatre, London on Wednesday 19 January 2022 with their award winning show Tropicana.

The show was a runaway hit at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and these dates kick off a campaign to tour the UK throughout 2022.

Tropicana explores, bends and abuses the gender binary with a backdrop of electrifying 80’s new wave hits from Spandau Ballet and Heaven 17 to ABC and of course WHAM!

As they head to London, Aidan is the original smalltown boy, and the show takes you on a journey through their upbringing in a show set against a backdrop of 80s synth-pop nostalgia, punctuated with world class stand-up comedy. It’s a show about self discovery, but deep down, it’s all about the music.
Aidan says: ‘I’ve always had an affinity with the New Wave movement of the late 1970’s/1980’s. The music that movement produced is moody, sexual, expressive. And to sing they’re a treat. Belty vocals, dramatic spoken word. Ridiculous, but perfect. I blame my mum personally. I grew up with the sound of 808 drum machines and korg synths blasting out of tinny CD players. It was naturally after this I did my research and saw how queer and gender-defying a lot of it was. That sealed an already sealed deal for me’.

Debuting at Edinburgh Fringe 2021, Tropicana sold out at TheSpaceTriplex’s Jenner Theatre before extending their run. Hit listed by the Scotsman, winner of Best Solo Act at the Scene Alba Magazine Awards and recipient of 9 rave reviews, the show is a masterclass of comedy, cabaret and music.
