Reading Rep Theatre has announced its most ambitious season to date, unveiling a 2025/26 programme that includes its first-ever musical, bold revivals, and high-profile co-productions.

The season cements Reading Rep’s growing national reputation, with co-productions alongside The Barn Theatre and Theatre Royal Bath.

Opening the season is a new revival of Jason Robert Brown’s cult-favourite musical The Last Five Years, running from Friday 19 September to Sunday 12 October 2025.

The production will debut in Reading before transferring to Cirencester and Bath, marking a significant milestone for the theatre.

For the festive season, Reading Rep brings back Beth Flintoff’s acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol, reimagined for Reading and set in the iconic Huntley and Palmers Biscuit Factory.

Spring 2026 sees the staging of Willy Russell’s beloved modern classic Educating Rita, running from Thursday 26 February to Saturday 21 March 2026.

This will be the first time Reading Rep has staged a work by Russell, bringing the story of working-class hairdresser Rita and her Open University tutor Frank to local audiences.

The season continues with a sparkling new production of Noël Coward’s romantic comedy Private Lives, running from Thursday 16 April to Saturday 9 May 2026.

Also announced is Rabbit on the Run, a joyful adventure for early years audiences, running from 18 to 21 February 2026.

Reading Rep continues its commitment to accessibility with £5 preview tickets for under 30s, part of its award-winning ENGAGE programme.

“This season captures what makes Reading Rep unique: bold takes on classic stories, collaborations with world-renowned playwrights, and a company of outstanding creative talent,” said Paul Stacey, Founding Artistic Director of Reading Rep Theatre.

“Every show is made right here in Reading — and this year, we’re proud to be working alongside some of the UK’s leading theatres, including Theatre Royal Bath. It’s a season that reflects how far we’ve come, and where we’re headed.”

Nick Thompson, Executive Director, added: “This is our biggest and boldest season yet — with something for everyone. From our first-ever major musical revival to festive favourites and timeless comedies from Noël Coward and Willy Russell, it’s the perfect year to experience everything Reading Rep has to offer.”
