Five Star Review from Theatre WeeklyEver wished Romeo and Juliet had a different ending? Love pop anthems? Think the titular characters would be even better in their 20s? If so, & JULIET is the musical you’ve been waiting for! Bursting onto the stage at New Wimbledon Theatre under the masterful direction of Luke Sheppard, this vibrant production delivers a fresh, exuberant twist on Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, blending timeless romance with empowering modern themes. Filled with unforgettable pop hits and an energetic cast, & JULIET brings new life to the classic story, proving there’s always room for second chances and reinvention.

& JULIET reimagines Shakespeare’s classic tragedy by exploring what happens if Juliet chooses her own path after Romeo. Set against a vibrant backdrop of self-discovery, the story follows her journey to find love, independence, and joy on her own terms. After finding Romeo dead and deciding not to end her life with him, Juliet runs away to Paris with a rag tag group of friends, there she meets Francois but things quickly become complicated.

The principal cast of & JULIET delivers outstanding performances, with Gerardine Sacdalan as Juliet showcasing an incredible voice that captures both the strength and vulnerability of her character. Kyle Cox as Francois and Lara Denning as Anne also dazzle with their vocal talents, bringing depth and charisma to their roles. Denning garnered a particularly intense reaction from the audience with her solo number.  The understudy for Romeo, Liam Morris stepped in flawlessly, delivering a fabulous performance filled with charm and energy, making the character truly unforgettable.

The lighting and staging in & JULIET are visually stunning, with Howard Hudson’s dynamic lighting transforming the stage to match the story’s shifting emotions, from vibrant, high-energy moments to intimate scenes. Soutra Gilmour’s clever set design merges modern and classic elements, enhancing the production’s playful spirit. Jennifer Weber’s choreography brings the pop anthems to life, with energetic dance numbers that further immerse the audience in this reimagined tale. Paloma Young’s costumes add another layer of excitement, blending contemporary fashion with theatrical flair. Each character’s wardrobe reflects their personality and journey, especially Juliet’s evolving looks, which perfectly capture her transformation and independence.

& JULIET is a vibrant and empowering reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic, filled with captivating performances, stunning visuals, and an unforgettable pop soundtrack. With standout work from the talented cast, a dynamic design, and an inspiring story of self-discovery, the show offers a fresh, fun, and heartwarming experience that proves there’s truly life after Romeo. Don’t miss this dazzling celebration of love, second chances, and finding your own path.
