Four Star Review from Theatre Weekly

Like so many of us, Strictly stars Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec saw their plans for 2020 scrapped when theatres across the country closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  They had intended touring their highly anticipated celebration of Oscar-winning songs, dances, movies and stars with Remembering The Oscars.

Following on from their sell out Remembering The Movies Tour, Remembering The Oscars would have visited theatres across the country, and until the tour can be remounted in Spring 2022, Janette and Aljaž have created a digital version of the show to give us a taster of what we can expect.

Anyone hoping to catch the show in person need not worry, it is still scheduled to go ahead and this shorter digital version of Remembering The Oscars serves only to whet our appetites for what is just around the corner.

Tuning in to the stream will give you a good idea of what to expect from the real thing.  Just like the Oscars themselves, this has a feeling of pure glamour to it.  An opening montage gives us snippets of our favourite Oscar Winners, from Dirty Dancing to Rocky. Moving in to the main part of the show and Janette and Aljaž give us some commentary with interesting anecdotes about some of the movies and stars to have picked up the hallowed golden statuette.  The Disney themed finale is simply spectacular.

Each voice over leads into spectacular dance routines, often accompanied by vocalists Janine Johnson or Giovanni Spanó.  With beautiful choreography you are swept up in to the magic of cinematography, and whilst all of this would certainly be more captivating in person, this digital stream has been wonderfully shot to ensure every detail is captured.

There’s a particularly interesting segment where Janette and Aljaž lament the lack of an Oscar category for choreography, before going on to share some of the movies, and dances, which would have benefitted from such a category.  It serves to remind us just how important dance has been in movies, and not just from the movie musical format.

Combining their passion for dance and movies, Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec have created a glamorous and charismatic tribute with Remembering The Oscars.  The digital stream shows us what we’ve missed, but also gives us an excellent indication of what we can expect when Remembering The Oscars does make it to the stage in 2022.

Remembering The Oscars premieres on Saturday, 27th March, and will be available to watch on demand via Smart TVs, computers, tablets, phones until April 17th
