Sacha Guitry Ma Fille et Moi

After last January’s sell-out run at the Drayton Arms, Sacha Guitry, Ma Fille et Moi returns for a week at the The Playground Theatre, Notting Hill. This new play was created by director Marianne Badrichani and actress Edith Vernes from various works of eminent French writer Sacha Guitry. Celebrating his particular talent for mixing reality and fiction, the show flits between dressing room and stage, joyfully discombobulating the audience’s expectations.

Sacha Guitry, Ma Fille et Moi is a comedy with four characters that tells the tumultuous story of a grand actress struggling with her three loves: the Theatre, her daughter and Sacha Guitry. It is a kaleidoscope of theatrical adventures and misadventures… or a lesson in how to make a permanent coup de theatre of your life.

Sacha Guitry, as an actor (stage and screen), playwright, director and film maker, was an essential figure in French cultural life during the 20th century. He became a star of French speaking cinema, making over 80 films during his long career, including classics such as Le Roman d’Un Tricheur, Si Versailles m’etait conté and Les Perles de la Couronne. He has often been described as the “French Noel Coward”. Despite this, his works have not been produced in England since the 1950s.

Sacha Guitry, Ma Fille et Moi is the third collaboration between Marianne Badrichani and Edith Vernes after Three Ruptures / Three Splits by Rémi De Vos (London, Beijing) and Ionesco / Dinner at  the Smiths (London/Paris). Their shows, supported by the French Institute in association with producer Nathalie Berrebi, aim to bring French authors to London, in new translations or in the original language with English sur-titles.

Sacha Guitry, Ma Fille et Moi is at The Playground Theatre 28th January to 2nd February 2019.
