Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Crash and Burn, a political comedy about climate terrorism and the Scottish oil industry, transfers to London for four nights only.
Joseph Johnson’s Scottish oil empire was created through decades of sweat and blood – lots of blood. Onboard a gas-guzzling jet bound for Glasgow’s COP26 climate conference, the tycoon faces an ultimatum: confess, or crash. An egotistical actor and a suspicious flight attendant are caught in the crossfire, accompanied by rebellious assistants and Johnson’s ambitious daughter.
Exposing rampant corruption in the oil industry, ridiculing the hypocrisy of high-profile activists and self-congratulatory conferences, this story explores the implications of environmental terrorism in response to the climate emergency.
The story unfolds in a fictional Scotland amidst increasing geopolitical tensions related to energy and security. The play probes current debates concerning prospective oil and gas developments in the North Sea, reflecting on the consequences of war rhetoric and the unbridled pursuit of profit.
