Swamp Motel Announce The Kindling Hour

Swamp Motel announce their most ambitious production yet – The Kindling Hour. From the creators of 2020 smash-hit productions, Plymouth Point and The Mermaid’s Tongue, comes the third instalment in a trilogy of live works that have set the trend for immersive online experiences.

For the 30,000 people across the UK who have already played the first two instalments, the third will be the final jigsaw piece in the sequel – The Kindling Hour places audiences and their teammates in the centre of a chilling underworld in a bid to bring down the London Stone Consortium once and for all.

The Kindling Hour will give film-lovers a sense of cinema, theatre-lovers a sense of live production, true-crime lovers a sense of suspense, and gamers a sense of challenge. Dive into a new world, all from the comfort of home with friends and family safely in theirs.

Like your favourite box set releasing new episodes, all three shows in the series will be performed Tuesday – Sunday weekly for newcomers to adventure through with friends. Each group will find themselves cast in this original filmic production to solve a series of clues and encounter unnerving meetings with unexpected characters.

Swamp Motel writers, co-founders and creative directors, Ollie Jones and Clem Garritty take inspiration from myth and history in the storytelling which travels around the UK and into Europe. In this tale of good versus evil – players remain on the side of the underdog fighting for justice against an ancient society who hold murderous secrets. From embedding in cults, to deciphering autopsy reports, to gaining insight into a dark past, present and future, nothing and noone is what it seems.

Clem Garritty and Ollie Jones commented: “We can’t wait to bring The Kindling Hour into people’s homes this Spring. It’s been really exciting to sit and tie-up all the loose ends in the first two shows and throw  in some curve-balls, we look forward to reaching new Ivy fans and welcome back those who have played Plymouth Point and Mermaid’s Tongue through 2020. As we continue to develop and experiment with telling stories in this digital format we’re relishing challenging ourselves to find new ways to do it in each chapter of the story. Hopefully we can continue to spring some surprises!”

Prompted by the sudden halt to live entertainment in 2020, multi-award-winning theatre and experience makers Jones and Garritty set about creating unique shared experiences harnessing the internet. Combining the artistry of live immersive theatre with the thrill of an escape room, the trilogy – inspired by the phenomenon of true crime – teases out themes of power, control, our relationship with the internet and trust, playing into our daily obsessions in a fun and fictional way.

Now an entirely new arm of the company’s creative output, reaching a mass audience across the UK, and a USA launch well underway, Swamp Motel have built on tech and innovation guided by audiences. The Kindling Hour continues to push ahead in this new form of entertainment, maintaining hope for 2021 that there will be opportunity for both live and online performances to compliment each other as the arts and entertainment industry gets back on its feet.
