There are just six weeks to go until The Smeds and The Smoos, Tall Stories’ Olivier Award-nominated stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved picture book, lands at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.
Running from 18 July to 7 September 2025, this intergalactic family adventure promises music, laughter and heartwarming storytelling for audiences aged 3 and up.
The cast includes Abbey Norman as Grandmother Smoo, Patrick Bridgman as Grandfather Smed, Felicia Akin-Tayo as Janet, Antony Lam as Bill, and Lolly Platt as the understudy.
Brand-new production images and a trailer have been released, offering a first look at the colourful world of The Smeds and The Smoos.
Toby Mitchell, Tall Stories’ artistic director and co-founder, said:
“I think The Smeds and The Smoos is one of Julia and Axel’s very best stories. Essentially it’s Romeo & Juliet in space, with aliens and a happy ending! And we’ve added a big dose of Tall Stories silliness, songs and surprises…”
Directed by Mitchell, the production features set and costume design by Barney George, music and lyrics by Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw for Jollygoodtunes, puppetry by Yvonne Stone, lighting by Peter Harrison, and choreography by Julia Cave.
Tall Stories is renowned for its joyful, internationally touring productions, including The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom. This latest show continues the company’s tradition of bringing picture books to life with puppetry, original music, and playful audience interaction.
