The Stage Awards will return on Monday, January 20, 2025. The awards recognise excellence in British theatre and will celebrate achievements in the theatre industry from December 2023 – November 2024.
Submissions for the awards are open now. Performing arts organisations are encouraged to put themselves forward for consideration. Submissions must be completed online here (thestage.co.uk/stage-awards). The deadline for submissions is Thursday, November 21 at midnight.
The Stage Awards celebrates eight categories: Theatre of the Year, Theatre Building of the Year, Producer of the Year, Innovation Award, International Award, Community Award, Unsung Hero and a brand new category Campaign of the Year, which is set to honour an outstanding marketing and PR campaign for the first time.
Commenting on the launch of the 2025 awards, Smith said: “The Stage Awards are the only major awards that celebrate theatre across the whole of the UK. We launched 15 years ago with the goal of creating an event that honoured the full breadth of British theatre and we have now recognised more than 100 theatremakers for their achievements.
“We are so pleased to be bringing the 2025 awards to a new home at the Royal Opera House. This year we are introducing a new award, Campaign of the Year, to recognise the magnificent marketing and PR work happening across the performing arts industry.”
Subscribers to The Stage are invited to make their own submissions for the awards, which will then be considered by The Stage’s judging panel. A series of industry experts will also be consulted, and judges will be able to submit their own suggestions, before a final decision is taken by The Stage Awards’ judging panel.
Any arts organisation that is a subscriber to The Stage can put itself, or another organisation, forward for consideration free of charge online here. Self-submission in all categories except Unsung Hero is encouraged. Submissions should be detailed entries that contain supporting evidence. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, November 21 at midnight.
Focusing on work since December 2023, judges will consider a variety of factors including artistic excellence, financial resilience, innovative business practices, employment/workforce conditions and commitment to sustainability.
The shortlist of nominees will be announced on December 19, with winners announced at an awards ceremony on January 20 held at Royal Opera House, Linbury Theatre, London.
The Stage Awards launched in 2010 to create an event that honoured the full breadth of British theatre. Now in its 15th year, The Stage Awards has honoured over 100 exceptional winners, spanning prestigious national theatres and major organisations to intimate, hidden gems and the unsung heroes who keep them running— front of house staff, casting directors, and stage door keepers among them.
Former winners have included Alphabetti Theatre, ATG Productions, Battersea Arts Centre, Improbable, Nica Burns, National Theatre, Sheffield Theatres, Sonia Friedman Productions and Theatr Clwyd as well as theatre technicians, casting directors and front of house.
