Older men ‘complimenting’ Anna Marie’s ‘childlike’ appearance inspired her to create Naughty: A man once said to her “You look 15, but I like that. I like women that look young”
Naughty is an electric, one-woman comedy exploring sexualisation of young girls and infantilization of women. Pushing the boundaries of the male gaze, Naughty confronts the disturbing image of innocence and youth as sexy.
Through audience interaction, body fluids, clowning & reckless scooter driving, this semi-improvisational piece develops into the absurd where wobbly jelly is used to expand, transform & sexualize the body. Pushing at the boundaries of the male gaze, exploring the limits of what this character might be allowed to do. Confronting the disturbing image of what beauty is defined as in our society.
Innocence and youth are seen as sexy, creating a cycle of belittlement. Anna Marie is sick of the patriarchy & Naughty aims to expose it.
The show has previously been performed at The Bill Murray (London), ZOO Venues (Edinburgh Fringe 2022), SALT Art & Music (Oslo, Norway), Old Fire Station (Oxford), Camden People’s Theatre (London), The Warren (Brighton Fringe 2021) & The Pleasance (London).
The show won Oslo fringe’s funniest moment award 2021 and was listed as ‘umissable’ by ToDoList London. It is described as “flirtatiously disturbing” (Lucy, OFS reviewer) and “this show might make you laugh, but most importantly, it will make you uncomfortable” (★★★★ edfringe review).
